The Sleepy Superior Podcast

A humble podcast achieved by one person, harnessing the art form of creating soundscapes to immerse the listener.

The Process

This was my first solo project as a sound designer, and it took me a long time to produce as one person. I first came up with the concept of short horror stories for my theme, and instead of dealing with copyright and using other’s stories, I wrote my own for this podcast. Writing each story and altering the script to be coherent for a podcast was new to me! But I loved building up the scenes so that the audio would enhance and be the main star of the show.

Once the scripts were written, I recorded myself narrating and voice acting for each episode. I wanted to practice all aspects of producing this podcast, and naturally voice acting was one of those steps. I then got to making my own foley, editing those sounds, and then mixing all of it with the narration on top. This took the most amount of time, but also provided me a lot of insight on how to balance vocals with sound effects, how to emotionally charge each scene and feeling, and most of all, how I work as a sound designer and what workflow is best for me.
